I knew from the touch screen order pad that I was in for a treat at Tomo Ramen! You order at a touchscreen as you walk in, get your ticket, and seat yourself in the plethora of chairs in the dark, red-lantern strewn main area. Drink menus are at the tables and seats! I got an absolutely delish bowl of ramen! I loved the spinach, the pork was super tender and cut thick, and the quail eggs were so fun! The sides of ginger, garlic, and chili oil were also great to experiment with different bites. Super wonderful place!

This might be the best ramen in Portland. It's certainly the best broth. Tomo is a tiny little shop on Hawthorne that you wouldn't notice at first glance, and when you walk in you're met with a list of 6 broths with their ingredients and a kiosk to place your order. This place is tiny- I repeat, tiny- so don't plan on coming with more than 2-3 people and expect to sit in communal dining along a row of seats. The place is cute, though, lots of art work and Japanese decor to enjoy while you await your GIANT bowl of delicious ramen. I ordered the gya (beef) and my boyfriend ordered the braised chicken. We also got the bacon wrapped rice as an app. Every single item was 10/10. The broth is so rich and complex and everything is cooked to perfection- I truly don't know how I had crispy pork belly that remained crispy until the end of the meal despite sitting in that glorious broth. We either ordered really really right, or everything on that menu is perfection, and based on the crowded set of groups of 1 and 2 eating other dishes around us, I am convinced it is the latter. We didn't order the Karage, but it was incredible looking too. Run, don't walk!

So much better than I expected! Located on Hawthorne, this place can be easy to miss among the other delicious restaurants, but it is truly a gem. Walking in, you run into a kiosk where you place your order. Their menu is very extensive with so many different kinds of ramen that I've never seen before. After ordering, you seat yourself and the staff brings your order out to you. The decor of the inside of the restaurant is dimly lit, beautifully decorated, and has a very nice ambiance. My boyfriend and I ordered the agedashi tofu, seafood ramen, and a spicy tonkatsu ramen. Something that I loved about this spot is that the kiosk had so many options to customize your order; you could very easily add or remove something from your ramen, as well as change spice level. The agedashi tofu came out and the tofu was so so delicious. I absolutely loved the sauce that it came with--very flavorful, but light. And the tofu itself was crispy. When the ramen came out, my boyfriend and I were astonished. Portions were huge, and it came out so beautifully presented (The seafood ramen was definitely photo-worthy). Between the two ramen itself, the tonkatsu ramen was better. Good cuts of meat and rich broth. The seafood ramen was good and had lots of nice seafood, however, the lobster was really REALLY dry and made the dish a bit disappointing. Overall, I would definitely come back but only get one to share (my boyfriend and I took about half of each of ours home).

overall: 4/5 food: 4/5 service: 3.5/5 ambiance: 3/5 tomo ramen is a cute spot, but not a spot for conversing it seems. i came with a party of 3 on a cold evening, and at a good time (there was a lot of people lining up after we entered the restaurant). there's a self-ordering kiosk at the front of the door, so we ordered from there, took our receipt, and sat ourselves. first impressions of the interior: cute decoration, but dark and a bit tight. we sat facing a wall next to each other so it was hard to converse and felt a little bit rushed to finish our meal. i got the tonkotsu miso ramen- the bowl was huge! a generous portion of noodles, and i like how they used quail eggs as a topping. this was something unique that stood out to me. the pork was also on the thicker side which was a good plus too. broth was rich, and the noodles slurped up very well. overall a lovely meal to warm up! your typical better than average ramen (7.5/10)! service wise, the people working seem very nice! food came out in a timely manner (mine ended up coming out like five-ten minutes after my friends' bowls came out which isn't too bad in retrospect). there was a little food left on my ladle from the previous customer, so i flagged down a waiter and they kindly exchanged it for me. only thing is that we felt rushed to leave throughout our meal- which. i get, as they probably want to make room for new hungry customers. overall a solid spot :).

A more authentic ramen experience with ordering done at a kiosk like some ramen houses in Japan. Service is quiet and efficient much like a ramen house in Japan. Food is generous in portion and doesn't disappoint in the flavor.

Never been to Japan, Tomo Ramen felt like what I imagine the ramen shops are like there. Not recommended for parties larger than 3, this space is very cozy and efficient. The tonkotsu ramen is massive and comes with ginger, garlic and chili to adjust flavor to your liking. The quail eggs and the pork with perfectly seared lines were the highlights. I was happy to have leftovers. And the karaage chicken was so dang delicious, too! The playlist while dining was early 90s top 100; which made this unique dining experience feel pretty relaxed.

This cozy spot with limited seating was an absolute delight. You order immediately at the kiosk then find your seats, could be a communal table or at the bar seats that line the entire space. Portions are massive and so flavorful. Alcohol is ordered at a separate counter. Be patient, quality takes time and this space is busy for good reason. Cannot wait to return to try everything on their menu!
